Rio Hondo city leaders decided to fire Police Chief William Bilokuryduring a special meeting on Friday. 

The city will start looking for his permanent replacement and in the meantime, Olga Maldonado will take over as interim chief.

Maldonado previously served as police chief in Mercedes and is the current mayor of La Feria.

On Monday, Rio Hondo city attorney Robert L. Drinkard provided the fulling statement to Channel 5 News.

"The decision was made after extensive investigations regarding internal personnel and policy issues and decisions associated with the Police Department.  The City is committed to retaining and moving forward with a new police chief in a positive direction.”
