The UTRGV baseball team started a three-game series against the number one team in the Southland conference standings, McNeese. 

The Cowboys had the 6-4 lead going into the 8th inning. Vaqueros junior Thomas Williams hit a solo home run to make it 6-5.

In the ninth, the Vaqueros still trailed by just one run with PSJA alum Jacob Sanchez at the plate and down to his final strike. Sanchez smacked a hit to left that managed to get down under the diving glove of McNeese right fielder Cole Plowman and brought in the tying run.

In the top of the 10th inning, Easton Dowell hit a go ahead single off pitcher Anthony Tejada. The Cowboys went on to win 9-6, squashing UTRGV's comeback hopes.

The two teams pick up action again on Saturday for the next game of the series in Edinburg.
