The body of an 18-year-old from Matamoros was found on Sunday morning near Santa Maria, according to Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino.

The body was found along the bank of the Rio Grande. Trevino said the death is being treated as an accidental drowning.

On Monday, Trevino said the victim was identified by his family as an 18-year-old from Matamoros, and his name is being withheld from the public out of respect for his family.
