The Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies are remembering trooper Moises Sanchez.

Sanchez was shot and killed in the line of duty back in August 2021. Saturday was the fifth annual obstacle course run held in his honor.

"It's always difficult, it's the biggest and the biggest and baddest one so far," DPS trooper Genaro Castillo said.

The obstacle course was more than just a test of strength, it was a way to remember trooper Sanchez.

"I'm overwhelmed by the love and support the community always has, always given us yearly," Sanchez's widow, Yvonne Sanchez, said.

This year was the third year Yvonne attended the obstacle run.

"Not the first two years, because you know, I was still going through depression and all that, but last year I participated in the event, and it's a challenge," Yvonne said.

Trooper Sanchez died months after he was shot. Those months he spent fighting for his life were represented in the course.

Teams of 25 carried 10-pound sandbags. Those sandbags mimicked a fallen officer.

"It's a good remembrance to show that when these competitors are out there competing, and they're exhausted and tired, it shows the sacrifice that Sanchez had. He kept fighting until the last minute," DPS Safety Education Sgt. Guadalupe Casarez said.

For Yvonne, he'll always be remembered as a loving husband.

"He was humble, and I know that this would have really amazed him by the love and support," Yvonne said.
