Community reacts after Brownsville ISD teacher arrested on charge of improper relationship with a student
Rivera Early College High School’s Julio Ricardo Trujillo was arrested Thursday following allegations of an improper relationship with a student.
As of last week, Trujillo was listed as the head girls basketball coach on the school's athletic website. He was no longer listed there following his arrest, but he was still listed as a criminal justice system teacher with the CTE department at the school.
“You never really think about it until you see it for yourself and it happens,” Rivera Early College High School senior Angel Garcia said.
Trujillo’s arrest was announced by Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz. According to Saenz, Trujillo was arrested on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.

Richard Lepre, a retired softball coach for the district, said the allegations should be fully investigated.
“You are a mentor, so to speak, and coaches are that to kids,” Lepre said. “Some people are gonna believe you, some people aren't."
Trujillo’s arrest was made more than a week after viewers first brought the allegations against the teacher to Channel 5 News.
Channel 5 News has been reaching out to the district since then for a response.
In a statement released on Thursday, the district said it is aware of the allegations involving Rivera and Hanna early college high schools
The district said an employee has been arrested, and “others involved” are no longer employed or are on administrative leave.
Channel 5 News reached out to the district to confirm if Trujillo was still employed with the district. The district said they could not comment on a personnel matter, and they are limited with the details they can share because of the ongoing investigation.
Trujillo remains in custody pending his arraignment.
