The floods from the March 2025 thunderstorm affected hundreds of homes across the Rio Grande Valley.

Since then, the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency has helped more than 600 flood victims in several cities.

On Wednesday, they'll be out doing it again.

Starting Wednesday, April 30, the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency will be providing disaster relief assistance to low-income, vulnerable households affected by recent flooding during an event at the First Baptist Church in Weslaco, located at 600 S. Kansas Ave.

The event will start at 9 a.m. and run through Friday, May 2, or until 150 families have applied.

“We'll be serving 150 families over that three-day period with some funds to begin the cleanup and the process of recovery from that disaster,” Hidalgo County Community Service Agency Executive Director Jaime Longoria said.

Each family can get up to $500.

“We do offer $100 to replace food that may have been damaged,” Longoria said. “We also provide $100 for any personal damage, necessities that they may have, such as hygiene items, those kinds of things that may have been destroyed. We also provide $300 of what we call a ‘cleanup kit.'”

That cleanup money can be used at building supply stores.

To qualify, households must be at or below 200% percent of the federal poverty level. They must also have a valid driver's license or I.D., proof of income and address, and photos of the damage to the homes.
